Opportunity Knocks, Will You Answer?

There are times when opportunity knocks, sometimes it is for everyone to hear, sometimes only for some to hear but the question is if you hear it will you answer?  Google released an announcement today.  Let’s see the highlights first and talk opportunity second.

“Starting next week, we will begin taking into account a new signal in our rankings: the number of valid copyright removal notices we receive for any given site”

“Sites with high numbers of removal notices may appear lower in our results. This ranking change should help users find legitimate, quality sources of content more easily”

Those two lines basically tell the story.  If you’ve ever tried to rank a site for ‘watch movies online’ ‘watch tv online’ ‘watch series AAAAA online’ ‘watch movie BBBBB online’, etc… you know that the top sites are all the torrent sites, the illegal movie streaming sites, the sites that post links to where you can find the streams.  These are all going to drop like rocks methinks out of the top 100 results.  See the opportunity?  Now it may be hard to take a site from scratch and quickly get it ranked, but if you are looking at it as a long term project or if you have a site already built putting in the time and effort now can pay off later because the competition just got sliced in half.  Yes, there will still be sites like Hulu that will rank well, but the number of sites that are going to drop far outweigh the number of sites that are legally streaming.

I don’t have much more to say on this because it is Friday night and I’m having some offline time tonight.  Just wanted to point this out to everyone in case you hadn’t heard about this today yet, and wanted to also point out to an example of an opportunity.  There are opportunities happening every week throughout different niches.  You just need to be astute enough to find them, understand them, and take action on them.
